He did indeed, but not specifically black.

"Our audience is like people who like licorice. Not everybody likes licorice, but people who like licorice really like licorice."

Jerry Garcia, December 10, 1981, to Geraldo Rivera on NBC's 20/20 news magazine.

Yeah, that works. It's hard to understand people who don't like the Grateful Dead, but I don't like licorice, and I know that people who do can't understand why I don't.

Red or black?

I love red, but for a purist, that wouldn't really cut it, eh?

"Red or black?"
depends on the mood

"I love red, but for a purist, that wouldn't really cut it, eh?"
the reds and that yummy Aussie fruity licorice(mango..MMMM) are really just glorified fruit snacks

"Black? EEEUUUUuuuuuuewwww!"
once you go black, you never go back;)

Black licorice is the best! And what's more, the black jelly beans are the best. Classic Brach's. Not those darn Jelly Bellies. Who the heck wants dinky little gourmet pina colada jelly beans?

Like I've said before, there a group you either like or don't . There is very little wiggle room here because they are not a radio friendly band like lets say the Eagles w/ big hit singles one after another. Some people just don't see the magic that happens on a good night and when all cylinders are clicking away and they do take you to places vey few bands even come close to. Again my biggest fault w/ them was they were not consistant and as I always have said, when they were good they were the best at what they did and a great time was had by all, but when they were bad they were fucking awful and I left at a perticular show after the third song first set knowing it was not going to get any better. Now for an exaggerated bad show we have a late stage appearence, incesent tuning, stage banter to waste more time and the dreaded uncontrolled feedback and after settleing in it would be a set of slow stupid cowboy songs, some covers, mixed w/ some usual drums-space and at very low volume levels only to crank it at the end w/ a very loud Johnny B Good just to tease the crowd and say yes we could do it if we were on tonight but to circumstances beyond our control you got a lame show.Again sorry for being honest in what I saw on a given night, and I never ever would have gone back as many times as I did if I didn't think the magic would happen.
As a post script they certainly were the best bargin in entertainment time wise w/ only Hot Tuna rising to the extented time on stage until Springsteen came along....LW
